Football Skills Training
Summer Football Skills Training for Quarterbacks, Receivers and Linemen
ATTENTION INCOMING 7TH, 8TH AND 9TH GRADERS!

Attend advanced football techniques and skills training at CAP Elite that is geared toward 7th - 9th grade athletes. It would encompass the following positions:

  • Quarterbacks - maximum of 6 kids/session (minimum of 2)
  • Receivers - maximum of 6 kids/session (minimum of 2)
  • Offensive Linemen - maximum of 10 kids/session (minimum of 4)
All sessions will be taught by Texas football coach Ray Kenjura. Please contact CAP Elite at 938-582-7777 or Coach Kenjura directly at 713-249-5482 to reserve a spot before they sell out. Space is limited.

Sessions Dates and Times:

Session 1 June 1-June18
Session 2 June 22-July 9
Session 3 July 13-July 30

All session times are:QB's 5-6pm, Receivers 6-7pm, Linemen 7-8pm
Each position group would involve outside skill work and improvement as well as teaching sessions in a classroom setting. In this way both the physical and the mental aspects would be taught.

Each session (inside or outside) would be one hour on length. Each athlete would be required to provide the following equipment:
  • Spiral notebook and writing utensils
  • Gym shorts and t-shirt
  • Cleats (no metal baseball spikes or track shoes)
  • QB's provide minimum of one football that is the same size that they use for games.
Quarterback Skills Training Program
The following is a brief description of what will be covered in the quarterback training sessions both on and off of the field.

Classroom Setting

  1. Introduction to and the importance of the position.
  2. Leadership qualities needed in a quarterback.
  3. Importance of communication between the QB and the coach and the QB and the rest of the offensive team.
  4. "Part of the TEAM - Not THE team".
  5. Defensive coverage recognition and responsibilities.
  6. Recognition of defensive fronts (# in the box) and the advantages for the run and the advantages for the pass.
  7. Defensive personnel "keys" and "reads" both pre-snap and post-snap.
  8. Pass "routes" and pass "patterns".
  9. Taking the offense from the board to the field.
On the Field Work
  1. Stance, body position, and making the eyes work in reading the defense.
  2. Seating and protecting the football in the running and passing games.
  3. Footwork involved in the following:
    • Quick passing game (3-step)
    • Drop back passing game (5 and 7 step)
    • Sprint out passing game
    • Play-action passes
    • Screens and Draws
  4. Griping and delivering the ball to the target.
  5. Consistent throwing motion.
  6. Accuracy at various distances.
  7. When to throw a dart and when to take something off.
  8. Reading keys to throw to the open man.
  9. Hand-offs, tosses, and option pitches.

Receiver Skills Training Program
The following is a brief description of what will be covered in the receiver training sessions both on and off of the field.

Classroom Setting

  1. Various roles that receivers will play.
  2. Importance of communication between the receiver and the quarterback.
  3. Defensive coverage recognition and responsibilities of the positions in the defensive structure.
  4. Reading the potential blitz.
  5. Adjustments and “hot” routes.
  6. Pre-snap and post-snap reads.
  7. Knowing where the holes are in pass coverage.
  8. Pass "routes" and pass "patterns"
  9. Taking the offense from the board to the field.

On the Field Work

  1. Reading the defense as you align.
  2. Proper stance and alignment.
  3. Releases against various types of defensive alignments.
  4. Varying speed and using the arms for another gear.
  5. Double move pass routes
  6. Using the hands…using the hands…using the hands.
  7. Working back for the ball.
  8. Protecting the ball.
  9. YAC (Yards After Catch)
  10. Zone vs. Man routes.
  11. Executing the "most difficult block in football".

Offensive Lineman Skills Training Program
The following is a brief description of what will be covered in the Offensive Lineman training sessions both on and off of the field.

Classroom Setting
  1. Most critical positions in the game.
  2. Who scores and who wins.
  3. Importance of proper technique.
  4. Communication is a big key - TALK before the play.
  5. Defensive alignments - key to who is going where.
  6. Using angles to gain an advantage.
  7. Combination blocks vs. man blocks.
  8. Know the rules - a grip is not holding.
  9. Taking the play from the board to the field.

On the Field Work
  1. Stance - not comfortable…"workable"
    • Three point stance
    • Two point stance
  2. Importance of the first step - direction and step.
  3. Run blocking technique - Hands and Hips and legs and feet.
  4. Zone blocking - working in pairs with combo blocks
  5. Lineman pulls - the shoulders are critical
  6. Trap blocking techniques.
  7. Pass Protection:
    • Body position
    • Head and eyes
    • "Four hands on" - "Four eyes on".
    • Grip and Lock-Out
    • Know the launch point for the QB
    • Feet…Feet…Feet…and then MORE FEET
  8. Screen and Draw techniques.
